November 7, 2007 - Pennys From Heaven -
ÒWelcome to my passion: caring for sick children. I am a registered nurse, certified in Pediatrics. I have been employed with Aultman Health Foundation for 27 years. I lost my sister Penny suddenly to a brain aneurysm when she was 46 years old. One day she woke up and the next minute she was gone. I took the sadness and grief that I felt in losing her and my passion for pediatric nursing and created PennyÕs from Heaven. My goal is to collect pennies, but any donation is accepted. Most important is remembering my sister Penny and letting no penny go unturned.
It is my mission to offer financial support to women and children with long term illnesses. One of my favorite things to do in life is walk. I walk and speak with God about life and what it has to offer people. I find a penny and pick it up. May goal is not success through money but through educating and treating people with the respect and dignity that we all deserve. I have been walking through Louisville for years now, carrying my walking stick and my bag over my shoulder. Throughout my walks, manyu have stopped and asked me what I walk for or I see people out all over and they recognize me at Ôthe lady that walks in Louisville.Õ Well, now is my time to tell. I walk for pennies. Literally, I look down and see a penny and pick it up, realizing that my dear sister, Penny, is with me and today, maybe, just maybe, I will help another human being. I started collecting donations in 2004. I had been talking about PennyÕs from Heaven for a while and my boss brought in a jar from home, just a plain glass jar and said, ÔToday we will start collecting pennies.Õ It all began in that moment. The 2004-2005 donations went to the Sharon Ann Lane Clinic in Vietnam for medication for women and children. In 2006, I decided to shift to pediatrics, specifically children living with HIV/AIDS. My goal is to support children who are HIV positive. Many children around the world are suffering from AIDS. It was my hope to be able to financially assit these children in some small way to make their life a little easier. Children donÕt always have choices in their little lives. I wanted to make it possible for them to get something that would make them happy or even save their lives. There is no replacement for good health and happiness. The donations made to PennyÕs from Heaven will go to these children, a gift from my dear sister, Penny, looking down on them from heaven.
In 2006, PennyÕs from Heaven raise $700.00. This donation was made to Violets Cupboard in Akron, Ohio, specified for pediatric HIV/AIDS patients support and care.
In 2007, the campaign has been slow until now. I walked into All Thru the Home, in Louisville early in October and the owner, Renee Klehm, asked me what she could do to give back; to help someone in need. I told her about PennyÕs from Heaven and I walked out with a fund-raiser scheduled for November 17, 2007. It has been a whirlwind since then with planning, scheduling and looking for donations. It is by the grace of God above that this fund-raiser for PennyÕs from Heaven is in process. The event, ÔOlde Tyme Christmas BazaarÓ, is scheduled for November 17, 2007 from 9a.m. to 8p.m. at All Thru the Home, 226 E. Main St. in downtown Louisville.
