ANNE E.'S JOURNAL - January 16, 2008

February 16, 2008

Hello all or should I say, "How yÕall doinÕ?"

IÕm in Nashville having a great time. Today I visited the offices of NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association Incorporated) because IÕm a new member. I figured I should drop in and get a tour. NSAI does a workshop every Thursday night. I plan on attending some of those. Members can also use music rooms there to record demos or write. You can even use one of their guitars if you donÕt feel like lugging one out there to write. Today I also went to an excellent songwriters workshop at BMI headquarters. The speaker was Jason Blume who I was introduced to in LA when I was at the Taxi Road Rally in October. I got to listen to some great songs and learned a lot. JasonÕs a mountain of information and so very gracious. HeÕs written several hits and someone I aspire to be like. I think IÕm on the right track. I received some good feedback in the past few months and IÕm feeling more and more confident as a writer. IÕm learning more about my craft and about the business of song writing.

Tonight I went out to the Cadillac Ranch and saw the Billy Block Show. It happens every Tuesday and Sunday and is a show that features 5 acts. Each act plays 5 songs. Excellent bands with great songs. I got to meet a friend of PeteÕs who moved down here years ago from Cleveland. He plays full time down here. HeÕs a guitarist and played with one of the acts tonight. If he can make a living down here, you know heÕs good. Anyway it was a pleasure to meet Stevie C. You can check out he and his wifeÕs band, Johnny Microwave, at http://www.myspace.com/johnnymicrowave. Pretty cool stuff. I did introduce myself to Billy Block, the host of the night, and gave him my CD ( I didnÕt want to but Erin fed me the lines and made me practice them before I went up to him. I tried to explain that I donÕt work like that. My acting involves a more internal kind of rehearsal. She wasnÕt having it). So I did my lines and let him know that IÕd like to do his show. If you only knew how uncomfortable I am doing that. Singing in front of people is a breeze compared to having to walk up to someone and ask them to listen to your stuff. Especially when you know they have hundreds of people doing that all the time. But I made myself do it and IÕm glad. IÕll get on the show just watch.

Tomorrow IÕll be tooling around some more and tomorrow evening IÕm going to do an open mic at a place called The Commodore. ItÕs suggested as a place to go if your new to Nashville and you want to start networking. So off I go tomorrow night. I did an open mic on Monday night after I did not get to play at The Bluebird Café (79 people signed up. I think I was 79. That damn plane was late!!!!). It went well but I really want to do The Bluebird. Good news is that if you donÕt get in your first try, then you get a stamp on the paper with your name and any time you want to return to the Bluebird within two years, your in!!! So next time IÕm here, IÕll be there! The host at The Bluebird is Barbara Cloyd. SheÕs written some hits and has lots of valuable info. to share with songwriters. So if youÕd like to get the scoop on songwriting especially in Nashville visit: www.barbaracloyd.com

RADIO NEWS: Kelly text messaged me very early on Sunday (I think it was around 8a.m.!). She apologized but wanted to tell me something. She was working at her restaurant (The Borderline Café in Lakewood-Awesome!!!!-Best Breakfast in town I donÕt care what the Fox 8 Hot List says) when she heard something on the radio. It was on Q104 and it was...ÓGirls and AirplanesÓ! She said to her customers, ÒWait, IÕm on the radio!!!Ó I guess they all started clapping. Right out of ÒFameÓ my friends. I donÕt know if she danced on a car but I sure hope so! Anyway, it was aired on Q104's The Coffee Shop with Tim Richards. The show airs every Sunday from 7-10a.m. HereÕs what IÕm asking you to do. Please please take a moment to send Tim an email and ask him to play my song some more. This is a real opportunity for me to reach some folks who have never heard of me. ItÕs a rare opportunity too. I mean this is a mainstream station in Cleveland and theyÕre giving a local artist a shot. This is a case of where, in fact, your email or call can make a difference. This is more important than any contest IÕve asked you to get in on. This is the real stuff, itÕs airplay!!! Will you please take a few moments to write to Tim at trichards@q104.com or call him live from 7-10a.m. (and God bless you if youÕre up that early) Sunday morning and request the song, ÒGirls and AirplanesÓ? And thank him for playing my music. The studio phone is:216.578.0104. Please call or email. I really appreciate it! Exposure can do so much. Just a few days ago I was speaking with my representative at Joseph Beth Books. He wanted me to send him more copies of Girls and Airplanes. This is the third time IÕd be sending him Cds in four months so I asked him, ÒWhatÕs going on over there?Ó He explained that he had put my cd on their listening station at the store. ItÕs the kind of attention that is hard to come by for a local artist and IÕm so thankful to Joseph Beth Books. And it just once again showed me what exposure can do for you. Many times we have something that people want, but if they donÕt know about it, they wonÕt ever get it.

HereÕs whatÕs coming this weekend. If youÕd like to join me please do:

Until next time.
