ANNE E.'S JOURNAL -March 22, 2007
March 22, 2007 Yo Yo Yo Yippee Ti Yi Eh! Hey everybody.
Well what can I say? This past weekend was really fun. I enjoyed both of my shows although they were very different. I started at Maize Valley Winery way out in Hartville Ohio. For some reason I thought I was near the Canfield Fairgrounds. I soon learned that I was not and that if I'd like some cheese on a stick this summer, I'd have to not coincide it with a gig at the winery. Now that just stinks. I'm obviously not going to be hired by Rand McNally any time soon!
But I will be hired by Maize Valley Winery again. I loved the show. It was my first night back and I have to say I was nervous. After being out of the game for a whole week and a half, I felt a little weird. But as I turned on my new Kustom PA Profile One PA System with Roller Bag (my old one now resides in Florida thank goodness-airport travel with that thing was a real pain), I was reminded that the "on" light is now blue instead of red. I basked in the tiny glow of my favorite color delighted that the good and smart people at Kustom decided to change it to blue. That was about all I needed to set the night off right. (tech. heads and musicians use this link to take a look at the Kustom system I'm really not kidding. None of this can be read from in the audience but believe me, the wheels are always spinning with small delights such as this. Seriously, yesterday I missed the entire top end of a conversation because I was day dreaming about playing Robin in the next Batman movie. Someone had mentioned Chris O'Donnel (I think it was me) and that was it. I just would like the outfit, the motorcycle and to run in slow motion at the end of the movie like Batman, Robin and Bat Girl do. No I do not want to be Bat Girl!!! I want to be Robin! I know some of you, probably all of you, know what I'm talking about. Isn't it fun to daydream? Oh the places we've all been! So anyway, The Maize show I don't think could have been more enjoyable. The audience was just wonderful, true listeners. They also did one of the best renditions of the chorus of Leaving on a Jet Plane that I've heard since beginning to ask you all if you'd like to "take a chorus". My compliments Maize Valley Winery audience! Maize Valley is a comfortable, cozy spot with food, wine, pies and a small grocery. It has a patio too that will be open when the weather breaks for good. Have a go.
Saturday night....Oh my, St. Patrick's Day at The Nickel. I must say, you ladies and the couple of men and the couple of straight couples, you know who you are and so did I, you really impressed me. First of all, you showed up! You made it through the crazy day and came out to the show. The band and I really enjoy ourselves at the Nickel. This past Saturday was no exception. I thank you for coming out. Thanks for waiting for us to solve our sound issues at the beginning of the night. I must tell you that I do not differentiate between straight and LGBT clubs on my schedule. I hold on to the belief that if you like my music, that it really won't matter to you if you walk into a club and discover that you're probably not going to find a date. If it does matter to you, then you find out just like you might with any club, and you choose whether or not to come back. I just hope that we can all share music together and get to know one another instead of designating clubs so that we all stay separated inside our comfort bubbles. So that's that. And I love all you people who can enjoy yourselves in an atmosphere you might not be used to. God Bless You!!!
So the Nickel was great and I thank you all for coming out to the show. Our next show at The Nickel is on June 16th which is Cleveland Pride weekend.
Here's the line up for this week:
Thurs., March 22 @ 7PM, solo/acoustic show at Thorncreek Winery. Beautiful setting, tantalizing appetizers and a great show.
Fri., March 23 @ 12noon, solo/acoustic show at The Colonial Arcade. Experience some of Cleveland's gorgeous architecture and enjoy lunch from an eclectic list of eateries while listening to some great music.
Sat., March 24 @ 9PM, join the acoustic trio at Hook Line and Drinkers located on the water's edge at Portage Lake in Akron
Sun., March 25 @ 6:06 PM, CrossRoads Service at The United Church of Christ in Avon Lake - Join the "God Squad" band at the United Church of Christ in Avon Lake for the CrossRoads Service. I'm telling you, if you are looking for a church or just to try out a new service, come to this! The music is great if I do say so myself but there's more than that.... It's a contemporary multi-media service. There are film clips and sometimes discussions (don't be afraid) and a great message given by the Reverend Kelly Peters. It's a great place to be to lift your spirit.
