Greetings Everyone and happy happy spring!,
It really is wonderful to see all the colors coming out. I was driving around in my truck today and noticed a yard with a blanket of blue accented with some daffodils. It was beautiful. Have you ever read the poem by Wordsworth called "The Daffodils"? http://www.blupete.com/Literature/Poetry/WordsworthDaffodils.htm
I like it, especially the last stanza. My friend Cecile, who I met in England way back in I think, 1987, could recite it and did when we were hiking in the Lake District. That's where Wordsworth lived and wrote. Cecile was an excellent genius; some kind of brilliant English student who would recite poems constantly as we treked. She was hysterical. I'm grateful for that time.
Anyway, spring is here and it feels really good. I don't know what's up with the weather forecasts. They seem so off that I think the best forecast is sticking your head out the window when you get up in the morning. I mean didn't one forcast say this week was going to be super cold and that this past weekend we'd have snow? Yeah, I just finished taking my mittens off.
Speaking of this past weekend I must say that I had a pretty good time. First, on Thursday, I got together with my friend and singer/songwriter Chris Allen ( http://www.chrisallenmusic.com ) for a show at West Park Station (Lorain Rd. in Cleveland see Venue List for address). Chris and I have not done a show together in over a year. It was great. Chris brought out his mandolin, electric and acoustic guitar. I brought my sound system, guitar, voice and some paper with notes on it! It was great and all worked out. We had learned some of each other's new material and that's always fun to do. Anyway I had a good time with my old friend.
I apologize (not really) to all you football fans for not realizing that I was looking at St. Ignatius and St. Ed's football helmets facing each other on the shelf in the back of Westpark Station. They just sort of looked like play helmets to me, kind of like the play, red football helmet I had when I was three. I didn't know why the helmets were there so I asked some people in the bar. They're yellow by the way. Um....I don't know, I'm just not that familiar with "the holy war" contestants. But someone in the audience filled me in....so, yes, they are the helmets of two big rivals on the west side. I definitely know about the rivalry just not the yellow part....I still say they look like play helmets.
You could remind me to tell you the story of when I was three, carried a red helmet with me just about everywhere and was called "helmet" by my brother and his friends. I definitely lived up to the name, carrying the helmet even when wearing a dress. I'll show you a photo when I have more time. It's pretty funny. I did have a reason for carrying it everywhere. I'll tell you the details some time.
So that was that. Thursday was good.
Then, I had Friday off from performing but but but, Sue, my web master, and I had work to do. Sue came out with me on Friday night. Sue's a sports fiend. She and I have had many a crazy and interesting opening day. I had been invited to a reception having to do with the "NCAA 2007 Womens Final Four" event being hosted by Cleveland (Yea Cleveland!!!!!!!!!!) this past weekend, Sunday and yesterday. I was invited by the lovely Rachael Stentz-Baugher ( http://www.clevelandsports.org/About/Staff/168897.html )
Director of Programs for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission,
( http://www.clevelandsports.org/scripts/runisa.dll?m2:gp::72357+calendar/display+21119 ) after having written to her about my song "Girls and Airplanes" and about meeting Billie Jean King on Olivia Cruises when I performed on board. I explained to Rachael that not only would I like to get involved with her organization regarding sport for girls and women and possible use of my song "Girls and Airplanes" but that I'd also like the opportunity to give a copy of the song to Billie Jean King. ( http://www.Google.com ) has tons of sites to visit to read about this incredible woman.
Well Rachael invited me to the reception, where I greeted Billie Jean, who did remember me from the ship ( I was so happy) and here are the photos (seriously, I don't know how to do photo shop. It really is my head on that body and it really is Billie Jean King holding the CD demo). It's me and Billie Jean (not the one that Michael Jackson sang about for those of you who weren't alive during the 70's when Billie Jean kicked Bobby Riggs http://www. bobbyriggs.com ass on the tennis court! Rachael, your terrific! I have not met you yet but I hope I do. I heard wonderful things about you and the way you have done your job for this extraordinary event. Congratulations! You're probably taking a well-deserved nap at the arrival of this email. Thank you, thank you.
So Friday was really good!
Then Saturday I had a great time at the Liberation United Church of Christ, performing at their event, "In Memory of Her". This was an event for Women's History Month put on by the church. What a wonderful job you all did and what a great audience to sing for! It was nice to see children at the show, to meet and talk with some new people and to see some familiar faces. I loved singing in your sanctuary. The candle lighting ceremony was just beautiful. Seeing you all come up and place a lit candle in memory of the "her" in your life was really touching and I think important.
Saturday was good.
Sunday was good too but I'm not talking about it again right now. I'd love for you to come out to the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and hear the "God Squad" and share in the service. Many of you have expressed that you'd like to come to the service....come out to the service. Everyone is welcome. It's every Sunday at 6:06PM but not this Sunday!!!!! Special Easter arrangements. See Below.
There's lots going on this week starting with tonight at The Greenville Inn. That's tonight at The Greenville, not tomorrow, Thursday, as originally scheduled. Please note it. It's tonght, Wed., April 4th @ 9:30PM.
