ANNE E.'S JOURNAL -April 25, 2007
April 25, 2007 Good afternoon and Happy Administrative Professionals Day!!! That's for all of you administrative professionals in the US and Canada, all of you in Poland, England, Sri Lanka and elsewhere, forget about it!!! You are not listed in the "At - A - Glance" calendar for this day of recognition.
I shall toast myself this morning with a cup of coffee and an Allegra D. I'm the Administrative Professional around here which would explain the way my office looks. It looks like a pack rat works and lives here!!!! There are post it notes (no I did not invent the glue for them. That was Romy and Michele.) everywhere. There are stacks of unanswered mail. There are guitar chords, magazines, cds, a goal chart and dust! I'm sure that in those mail piles are threats from my friends at the State Tax offices. They like to scare me when I don't report my sales on time. I still fall for it for 30 seconds each time I receive a threatening notice. Then I realize, "Oh I don't really owe $800 something dollars I just have to send my report!" I think they should just send an envelope with handcuffs in it and instructions on how to put them on! Then I could walk myself, in handcuffs, to tax prison. I could sit in a cell with Willie Nelson and sing songs about farming. We could braid each others hair! But I would not sing, "To All the Girls I've Loved Before" with him. I don't like it at all.
Anyway, to all of you who keep offices ticking including Val at the United Church of Christ (http://www.thealucc.org) in Avon Lake who with kindness, expertise and grace always makes sure the "God Squad" gets paid in spite of our ever changing schedule, thank you!!!! You make life easier and that's a gift to those who need you....God Bless You.
So I had a great time performing in Florida. I enjoyed being in Sarasota Friday night at Metro Coffee and Wine. A wonderful surprise was that Jennie McNulty, comediene and professional football player was at the show! Jennie and I met on Olivia Cruise Lines when we were both performing on the Eastern Carribean Cruise in, I think 2005. Jennie lives in California but was in Sarasota visiting family. So she came out to my show with some friends and we got to catch up. I did not spend a ton of time with Jennie while on the cruise. It's crazy when you're perfoming there for the first time, very overwhelming. But I remember well the bit of time we did have because, as I told Jennie last Friday night, I felt like I was "really talking about something". Jennie is intelligent, kind and guess what, FUNNY. Check out her my space page. (http://www.myspace.com/jenniemcnulty) We talked about the possibility of doing a show together some time. Wouldn't that be fun? Thank you to Metro Coffee and Wine especially Debbi who books me, works while I'm working and is always so upbeat, kind and great to be around. And thanks to all of you who attended.
Saturday afternoon I played in the courtyard of Central Cafe and Organics on Central Ave. in St. Petersburg. It's a beautiful courtyard right off the main sidewalk of Central Ave. Once again, people came out to hear the music. To see people returning to my performances is exciting and great fun. Thanks for the song requests ladies. Please send me the photo you took so I can let people see your sweet selves. Thank you to to the Russells/Borks, my neighbors from my growing up street in Avon Lake (they saw "Helmet"), for coming out to see me while in Florida. Thanks to Rebecca and her husband Steve who now live in St. Pete, for your continued support and for bringing your mom, dad, brother Steve and partner Joe out to see me. Steven Russell is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the New Jersey Gay MenŐs Chorus in Princeton (http://www.njgmc.org) Wow!!! That's huge. He was my neighbor! And of course, thanks once again to Mickey and Tanya for having me at Central Cafe and Organics, your place. I appreciate you waiting for me to build an audience. It's working out!
Saturday night was the usual kick-ass time at A Taste For Wine (241 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, 727-895-1623-web site is in the works). Pardon my French but that's how I feel about it. I love it there. Lots of folks came out for their Saturday night. I am so happy that so many came to hear the music, to enjoy a great glass of wine, visit with friends and enjoy the atmosphere. It's wonderful to have people truly listen to what you've written. I appreciate it. As for those very few who like to stand in front of the speakers at the bar and scream to each other right in front of me, please take a time out (I can show you how it works. I used to be a teacher.). What I like to do to handle this is just go out as far as my guitar chord will let me and stand right next to you, the loud person. I don't really make eye contact, I just stand next to you, the loud person. I stand next to your cell phone and your voice and see if you notice that there's a performance going on in one of the 5 available spaces and in fact, right next to you. I love you but will you please notice me? Who am I kidding? These people aren't on this mailing list! They didn't even know I had paper out and a guitar on! Well maybe the rest of you can let them know when I'm performing...while I'm performing.
Meagan, Megan and Brandi were there in from Lakewood. These three gals are a treat. I could listen to them talk all night and I actually did after the show Saturday night. Great to see Cindy and Craig Luty in from Brandon, my great friend Cindy from high school and provider of a room at Hotel Luty when I first began performing in Florida. You know I love you!
