ANNE E.'S JOURNAL -May 3, 2007

May 3, 2007

Yo, yo, yo everyone!

Hello and how are you?

Well, what can I tell you? First of all this will be shorter than usual and of course semi-sweet. There is much to do and I think I'd better get to it rather than rambling on. Don't worry, I'll be rambling soon enough. I've got some pretty good stories to share including one about my dad, my great-grandfather, farming, a plow and me, my brothers and sisters almost not being born. Next week my lovelies, next week. I have to check with my dad and see if it's ok to tell you. I think he'll let me.

First of all, my CD, "Pop the Star" is now available on iTunes! It took me a bit to learn about all that and to hire CD Baby as my digital distributor. I've been working with CD Baby (http://www.cdbaby.com) for a few years but it was not until after I researched digital technologies a bit (Steve Gordon's book, The Future of the Music Business, How to Succeed with the New Digital Technologies was my main source) that I was able to make a decision about distribution of my music. CD Baby has been very good to me regarding helping to facilitate credit card sales at my shows. They are great communicators and I appreciate that. They work very hard for the independent artist and that's me! If you're an independent artist you may want to look into it (cdbaby.com). Thanks to Robin Stone and Alexis Antes (http://shelovesyourecords.com) for turning me on to CD Baby.

So you can now buy single tracks of "Pop the Star" on iTunes. Use this link.

Lots more digital availability will be happening in the weeks and months ahead. Now that I've got "Pop the Star" under my belt, I'll be ready to get "Girls and Airplanes" available digitally in a timely fashion. I think there'll even be ring tones! So check it out now and remember when "Girls and Airplanes" is released, you'll be able to download single tracks or the whole darn thing to your ipod!...Cool.

Ok, well last week I performed at C-Town Grille. Matt, Kelly and I were there. The Cavs were playing that night. It was a playoff game. I didn't even know until we got there that they were playing. I'm not in that loop. I stink at basketball. I used to ride the "pine poney" during high school games. It really stunk! Lebron who? Anyway, I thought, "oh sh--, this is gonna be a real pain, but what the heck we're here". I mean C-Town has several TV screens and I thought I would be asked to move out from in front of the wide screen TV which is where we play. But that did not happen. Instead the people who were there kind of watched the game, listened to us, played some pool, ate the free popcorn, talked and were generally just really sweet. There are a few people there, who both times I've been there, really listened. And that's one of the greatest things for a singer/songwriter.

However, I did think at one point I might have to rumble with one "lady" who seemed very upset that I was moving tables around her "area". I was making some room and she was not happy. She let me know with her face and body language. Well, Kelly and I were both tired, really tired and so we believed we were ready for some kind of throw down (yes, this is the woman who wrote the song "Freedom Fighter" (Pop the Star) talking to you! Oh yea you can listen to the track now on ITunes! We really were in no mood for any "bad asses" and we let each other know that we were angry enough, tired enough and yet strong enough to have a rumble. Hey, when you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way. Anyway nothing happened except us running our mouths as usual. Just to each other not the "lady". I really don't think I would fight physically. I can come up with some choice phrasing every once in a while and I can run pretty fast but my last physical fight was when I was about 11 and my neighbor Dale threw a basketball at me that had dog sh-- on it. I punched him and gave him a bloody lip then ran away....That was enough of that, it's not fun. As for Kelly, I really don't know. She'd probably end up friends with her and sharing her lip gloss. Matt was not privey to any of this. He played like a king though!!!!!! A king of guitars. It was a really good shooooow!

The rest of the weekend was good. I particularly enjoyed my gig in Amistad Chapel at the United Church of Christ National Offices in downtown Cleveland. What a lovely audience of pastors from all over the United States. I must admit that during some of my songs I was thinking, "I don't know if I should be singing this for pastors", but they loved it. I did a little bit from each of my CDs including "Swastika of Hate" which I wrote and recorded when I was with Odd Girl Out and "Second Class Citizen" (Girls and Airplanes)( Read lyrics now)
I also played "Wait For Me" which was one of the evening favorites. You can download "Wait For Me" right now! It is not on any CD. I wrote it after we recorded "Girls and Airplanes". But I did do an interview with Jim Chenot at WAPS 91.3 The Summit (Akron OH). Jim's show, Jim Chenot's Radio Sandbox, airs on Fridays at 11 pm. He interviewed me in November and recently sent me a CD Copy of the show. Suprisingly that show was the first time Jim and I met. I had a great time at the interview. We talked about my trip to New Zealand, writing, the new CD, inspirations etc. I look forward to another chat session with Jim before the release of G&As. Send Jim an email and let him know you'd like to hear some Anne E. DeChant/that you appreciate him and The Summit for playing mine and other regional artists music! mailto:jimchenot@hotmail.com

Anyway, you can listen and/or download the interview with Jim Chenot(edited) and/or just my performance of "Wait For Me" right here!

A note to you all that Patti Yoder, who many of you see at shows, who does bookings for me and promotions (When you see an ad with my photo or article in the paper, that's all Patti's work) has been ill and in the hospital for a few months now. She is now at home recovering. I'm sure she would love to receive some words of support. If you'd like to send your support, please send it in a reply to this email and we will forward your kindness on to her. Thank you.
