ANNE E.'S JOURNAL - June 22, 2007 - CD Release info. Radio Play for Girls and Airplanes"!

June 22, 2007

Hello Everyone,

Happy 4th of July! May we all be patriots now more than ever.

Thank you to all of you who came out to my shows in Florida. It continues to be a pleasure to build an audience in the St. Pete, Tampa, Sarasota areas. Thank you to my venues, Metro Coffee and Wine, The Pier and A Taste For Wine. I would especially like to thank Mary and Arlene, hosts of the The Women's Show on WMNF 88.5FM Tampa. I did an in-studio this past Saturday with these two intelligent, fine women. It was a busy morning of news as Michael Moore's new film "Sicko" had its debut, St. Petersburg Pride rolled out on Central Ave. (including a visit by Dennis Kucinich and his wife Elizabeth), and a woman named Erin began the 3rd day of her 55 day tour, driving in her Volkswagen Bug to various cities to promote dialogue on the subject of hate crimes committed against gay and lesbian people. Erin's car was vandalized in a parking lot after someone noticed a rainbow sticker on it. On the car were painted the words "fag" and "you're gay". After much discussion and thought, Erin decided to look at the crime as an opportunity to get people talking about the subject. So she began a 55 day tour. Erin's trip included St. Petersburg Pride. Mary and Arlene were there to cover it all. They received tons of emails, calls etc. It was a busy busy day when I walked into the studios to WMNF 88.5FM to talk about my new CD, "Girls and Airplanes" to talk and to play a few songs. I was happy that the show is right up my alley and that it is not stretch to talk about my material and to relate it to some of the news of the day.

Later that night, at my show at A Taste For Wine, two women who attended after hearing me on the WMNF, said to me "Mary loves your music and plays it all the time". I thank Mary and Arlene and WMNF 88.5FM for welcoming me and for playing my music. Independent radio where DJs (not corporations) make the decisions (just like the old days) about what to play, is where it's at for me. It is an opportunity for me to share my music with many people who may not otherwise hear it. You can visit MN's web site go to "Programs", click on "The Women's Show", scroll down and click on the archive of June 30th if you'd like to listen to Saturday's show. I also encourage you to take a look at WMNF's and many other listener supported stations fight to keep playing music over the Internet and ultimately over the airwaves. Surprise surprise there is now a thrust, through law, that increases radio stations fees to broadcast over the Internet, 500-1200%! And it's retroactive to 2006. This will bankrupt many smaller independent stations and force them off air. Pathetic! This law (that is set to go into effect on July 15th) is a sweetheart for the major corporations that own most of our country's radio stations. They choose the music you listen to instead of you choosing. With this law they can use the issue of Internet broadcasting to continue their reign over our ears and our musical sensibility. They'll let you listen to the same 10 songs every day for several months and convince you that you like it! "Mmmm, give me some more sugar, says the small child with the rotting teeth. I like it. It tastes good!!!!" We know better don't we? The Internet, the saving grace to many an independent artist, they want to have that too. And by having that, they get the whole kit and ka boodle....Pigs at the trough. If you want to continue to hear independent artists like me and my friends Chris Allen, Ryan Humbert, Tracy Thomas, Zack and the many hard working independent musicians then please follow the steps at http://www.wmnf.org and call your congress person. I was on the phone with Vonovich's office last Friday. Pick up the phone and call!

This independent artist's CD release is just a week and 2 days away now! I must tell you that since the process of preparing for the actual release, things have come into place really nicely. Press coverage began yesterday with an article in my hometown newspaper, The Avon Lake Press. Scene, The Plain Dealer, The Free Times, Sun Newspapers and a bunch more are all covering this CD and some the story behind it. I will also do some in-studios at WAPS and 92.3 K-Rock WXRK. Watch Fox 8 the morning of July 13th. I'll be there too. I'm looking forward to a great night at The Winchester. When all is said and done, it's about the music. I can have everything in place from PR to merchandising to a full house but I look forward most to the music. I hope to see many of you at The Winchester on July 13th. I'm excited for you to have the new CD and in addition, I think you'll be really pleased with some of the great new merchandise. Sue Unkefer has done such a great job working with me and creating new T-shirts (three new designs) and lots of cool stuff that you'll see when you get there. Sue and I have been talking for months, keeping sketches of ideas and letting all this stuff roll into fruition. Sue has been through three cd releases with me and years of helping me to keep the business of my music running. We fight like sisters sometimes but we love each other like sisters too. Thank you so much Sue for doing such a great job, for timing everything out for me and for being a great sounding board. You've helped to create a great new merch. line! All good things!

I encourage all of you to come early on July 13th. You'll have time to get seated, purchase the new cd and what nots and hear Chris Allen perform. Chris and the guys will have just returned from a string of shows in Alaska. They take the stage at 9p.m. If you've never heard Chris, I'm telling you be there for his show. If you have heard him, you will be. Chris will join the band and I during our set for a couple of tunes as well. Tim Longfellow will play dem keys for ya and Steph Zegarac (some of you know her from the CrossRoads service) will be there too to sing some harmonies along with Kelly. Of course, Matt, Kelly and Jim will be there along with Pete Cavano who will be on bass. Sweet!!!! ...I have no idea what I'm going to wear! Ugh!

Remember you can purchase tickets in advance HERE or by calling the Winchester (216.226.5681). If you buy advance tickets, they will be at the door for you when you arrive. Please bring your id. Advance tickets are $10.00 with a $1.00 charge for handling. Tickets are $10.00 at the door. There will be two lines the night of the show; one for those of you who have purchased tickets in advance and one for those of you who choose to pay at the door. This way, we can keep the flow going, get you into club and ready to rock! See you there.

I return to town this Thursday, July 5th. I'll be at Thorncreek Winery (155 Treat Rd., Aurora OH, 330.562.9245) @ 7p.m.. Joining me on guitar will be Pete Cavano. Come and enjoy a glass of wine, great appetizers and the beautiful setting of the Thorncreek. The music kicks ass too!

On Friday, July 6th @ 12noon, I'll be at the Colonial Arcade. I'm not sure who will come. I mean is anyone working downtown on Friday? Seriously for your sake, I hope not....Now I just realized, I'm working downtown on Friday...son of a...! Well if you are working downtown, you can come and listen. If you're not working downtown you can come too. Is there an Indians game that day? I really don't enjoy parking when there is. But I'll be there. Colonial Arcade at noon until 1:30PM.

Saturday night (July 7th) @ 7p.m. I'll be with Pete again. This time we'll be at Talkies (2521 Market Ave., Cleveland OH, 216.696.FILM) This is a great little spot on Cleveland's west side. It's across from the Great Lakes Brewing Company right off W. 25th St. north of Lorain Ave. You can find street parking or pay $3.00 to park in a lot 1/2 block from the venue.

Then there ain't nothin' 'till the big release!

I remind you that if you'd like to get the title track, "Girls and Airplanes" on your iPod now, you can. Get it HERE USING THIS LINK or http://www.myspace.com/anneedechant, and purchase it. Then you can sing it with me at the release! Come on people now!

That's it for now. I hope you have a great holiday, that you enjoy some time with loved ones and we can all hope for and help with some new and great things for our country in its new year. Pray and work for peace and justice!!!

Up and until then,

Anne E.
