Hello Everyone! I hope this entry finds you well, that you have enjoyed fall so far and are moving into the coming holidays with good things on your mind. Want to share with you all some stuff before the band begins its November schedule both gigging and recording. Yep, we begin recording our full-length CD on Monday November 3rd and we are PUMPED UP! So before that part of the process begins and time for correspondence runs thin, I thought I'd write some notes of thanks, news, and reflection....
October began with a trip to Kelley's Island. After the band played at The Kelley's Island Brewery in August, Anne E. and Matt returned for an acoustic show to help begin establishing the band at Kelley's. The band will be playing Kelley's Island throughout the 2004 summer. Owner Patty Harris will be working with my booking team and I to put together some package deals to make it easy for you all to plan weekend trips to Kelley's. We'd like to make it as easy as possible for you to catch a ferry over to see the band @ Kelley's Island Brewery, stay the night if you choose and enjoy the fun and beauty of the island. Cottages, camp sites and bed and breakfasts fill up fast on the island so plans have to be made well ahead of your stay date. We're going to work this winter on a package that helps everyone to do that. Patty's family has been on the island for 46 years so she knows the island and the folks who can help to organize affordable trips. The Brewery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, has a full bar and the best view on the island (Wait 'till you see the sunsets!). Patty is one of the nicest hosts you'll meet. She's taken such good care of the band and her patrons. We surely appreciate it and will do everything we can to spread the word about this great spot on Kelley's Island. Stay tuned for more info. and include Kelley's Island and the band in your plans for the summer of 2004.
During the second week of October, we made a stop in Toledo on our way to Shelby MI. The acoustic duo performed at Blu Jeans (Yes, it's spelled "Blu"). Ok gals, (and a few guys) you were great! Thanks to all who came out to the club. It was so nice to see some familiar faces after not having been in your area for a long while. Thanks to all who brought a friend to hear my music for the first time. Thanks for the requests and for singing along. I enjoyed listening and talking with many of you. Oh and to the kind kind woman who put way way too much money in the tip jar...THANKS!!! I wish I had film coverage of my face when I was counting it. I'm sure it was classic. You're very kind, and you help us with our road trip the next day to Westshore Community College in Michigan. Thank you. Cheers to Sam behind the bar for taking good care of Matt and I and everyone there. Thanks to Jen for helping unload all our equipment (See, Jen I told you I'd remember you....She insisted I would not). And of course thanks once again to Kathy Dean for her time and energy in getting us to Blu Jeans and helping to promote the show, via email, distribution of posters and good old word of mouth. Thank you to the club owners, Tam, Tamara and Vanessa. Your attitude runs through your entire staff and your clientele. We look forward to returning on Dec. 6th.
To those of you who listened in on our in-studio at WRUW 91.9FM on Tues., October 21 I must first say, how in the heck can you get up that early? I can do it once every couple of months and then it has to be for a radio show or for fishing; that's about it. Anyway I do thank you early risers for tuning in and I will surely keep you in my prayers. I really have to thank Charlie Saber at WRUW for his consistent support of my music and the music of the many independent artists in our region. He has consistently included me on his play list has been a huge supporter the upcoming release and "Round @ The Winchester" (visit www.anneedechant.com <http://www.anneedechant.com> for details). Join Charlie every Tuesday from 7-9AM on WRUW-FM 91.1 or listen online ( http://www.wruw.org/livefeed.php3). You can request my music (including some cuts from the upcoming CD) @ 216.368.2208. We'll be swinging back around to visit Charlie sometime during the winter and when the new release is ready. Thanks Charlie.
Something new on the calendar is a great little spot in Akron called Shots. Yes, it sounds like a sports bar kind of doesn't it? It's actually not. Shotz has an eclectic clientele appreciative of the warm, neighborhood setting and live original music. The beautiful bar was constructed in part by Amish carpenters. They won't go into the bar, but rather, build parts outside of it and then hand them over to be installed by someone else....Now that's self control! Anyway, the acoustic duo played @ Shotz on Oct. 12th. We had a nice little crowd. The owner Terry Dean has asked us to play there every second Sunday of the month @ 9:30PM. Sounds good to us! See the calendar for details. Next one is Sunday, Nov. 23rd....Great winter spot.
Thanks to Lydia's for a great night on the 18th. To everyone who came out to hear the full band thanks for your support of these bigger shows. With your support we're able to do them. We love Lydia's and we love our audience there. We'll be seeing you in December!
I'd like to extend my appreciation to everyone who has latched on to "Round @ The Winchester". We had our biggest crowd to date this past Saturday. Special guest, Sean Smith from Chattanooga TN, found himself a new connection in Cleveland and Lia Fail from Akron OH, reconnected with some, brought in there audience to share with us and made some new fans. As I said from the stage Saturday, each time I do the show, I learn something new. And each time we take the stage we are trying new things to make the show more enjoyable. I received great feedback concerning the Q&A period with each visiting artist. This was a suggestion made after the Sept. Round. We gave it a go and are glad you like it. To those of you who mention that you'd like to stay seated during the entire show, we're going to, at the next "Round" (Sat., Dec. 27) have a server coming to you for your drink orders. That way you can stay with the show the entire show...unless you have to go to the bathroom....We will not be bringing anything around for that!!!
Cheers to Mike Ferrari of the Avon Lake Press for his article on the "Round" (see web site "news" section) in the Oct. 15 issue. Lots from the west side learned about the event and came on out Saturday as a result. You may also read the story from the Free Time article published in a Sept. issue of The Free Times. Jeff Neisel, music editor interview Don Dixon, Chris Allen and myself before the Sept. round. Thanks for the serious justice guys!!!
Also, to the brave and talented souls who venture onto the stage for the open mic after the Round, keep coming baby!!! Open mics are a great way to be heard, to hone your skills, test out new material and to simply enjoy. Anyone who brings an instrument and signs up for the open mic (all original music), gets into the Round for $3.00! We look forward to seeing you.
Alas, I have come to the end of this correspondence. I need to work on some songs, get ready for tonight's final rehearsal before we begin our recording, go to the post office to deliver posters to clubs and take in a breath of fresh air. Thursday is supposed to be warm and sunny, a great day for fishing!!!
Thanks once again for all your support. We can't do it without you, well we could but then we couldn't pay our rent. I hope you're looking forward to the new CD. I've been so blessed with a great band, a talented producer and a wonderful man who has made financing this project possible. As a result of the many blessing we can work more with Don, shop the CD to labels and keep doing what we love to do. I am so very thankful. The band and I are so excited about it. Well Kelly and I will go out on a limb and say we're really excited. The guys will probably want me to say, "yea, it's cool" or "It's all good" (Matt) or "We're going straight to the top" (Jeff ) or "You know" (Paul) We'll be in-studio with Don Dixon for the next several weeks. What a treat. So in the meantime, know that we're laying down the tunes, thinking of you, thankful for you and that the results of all this positive flow are gonna be grand!
We'll still be playing during this time so please join us at a live show. Bring a friend and keep spreading the word about original music in Cleveland. To those of you in NY, Columbus, Toledo, and Chicago, we're working our way back to you babe with a burning...wait that's a 70's song, anyway we're coming your way so check the November/Dec. schedule.
Until we see you again, take care and peace baby!
Anne E., Matt, Jeff, Paul and Kelly
