Good Afternoon, One of the perks on my Indiegogo Campaign is "Hometown Jelly". This is perhaps the most personal to me as it is a jar of jelly that I will make for you using grapes from the vines of my great grandfather, Edward DeChant. Two years ago my mother prepared two vines for me from those that are in her backyard garden in Avon Lake, Ohio. They are now growing in Nashville Tennessee! My great grandfather sold his Concord grapes to Welch's and revealed in a journal kept by his son Philip, to bootleggers in Cleveland Ohio. My uncle remembers that as a boy, he would ride in his father's truck on a very crooked and convoluted route (to avoid police detection) into Cleveland to deliver grapes. I'm going to be proud to grow, cultivate, make jelly from and deliver "Hometown Jelly" to my Indiegogo supporters who have chosen this perk.... My great grandfather, Edward DeChant, my great grandmother, Florence, and their sons, (from L-R) Edward, Philip, Richard, Woodrow (my grandfather) and Charles on the family farm on Miller Rd. in Avon Lake OH. Circa 1932
Grapes from my great grandfather’s vines. I am growing them in my back yard in Nashville and will cultivate to make lots of jars of grape jelly to send to my Indiegogo Supporters who chose “Hometown Jelly” perk.
The farm where these vines originated are mentioned in the song, "Old Town Road" from my 2011 release, "Swing". Enjoy your free download (see below) exclusive to mailing list members.
