From the recording Girls and Airplanes
An inspirational tribute to the WASP (Women's Airforce Service Pilots) and the women who bravely volunteered to move into uncharted territory during WWII -moving out of the traditional home as work place in order to support the war effort, building and flying planes, training male pilots, and ferrying planes to given destinations. No WASP was ever paid for her service to her country, no woman in this time frame was ever instated into the military, despite the efforts of Eleanor Roosevelt. This is their story and an inspiration to girls and women everywhere! Featured in the films, "The Hot Flashes" starring Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes and Darryl Hannah and "The Vetters: All We Needed".
Lyrics
Girls and Airplanes - Anne E. DeChant © 2007
I just got out of a cage that I’ve been living in
I didn’t know it until I spread my wings a bit
Oh look I’m beautiful
Oh look I’m strong
Oh look at all the places I belong
I’ll never shut up never give in
Never gonna keep my feet on the ground again
I’ll never back down never fit in
Where you left off is where I begin
Girls and Airplanes Girls and Airplanes
Girls and Airplanes Girls and Airplanes
I was a clerk in an office out in Arkansas
I came to Rihmond to sew up lanes when my country called
Oh look I’m capable
Oh look I’m strong
This big wide world is where I belong
I’ll never shut up never give in
Never gonna keep my feet on the ground again
I’ll never back down never fit in
Where you left off is where I begin
Girls and Airplanes Girls and Airplanes
Girls and Airplanes Girls and Airplanes
I worked so hard
I was not glorified
Got a job and money in my pocket
I am sanctified
I’ll never shut up...
